I agree that photography's norms and the way it's used are changing.

I even agree that most photos will be taken by phones going forward.

But that is a really, really, really low bar to hop over.

Try getting the attached wedding party shot from 100 yards with a cell phone or getting the attached candid portrait of mom and babe at 20' or isolating the subject as in the other or ...

DSLR's are far from dead, I do and will carry around that big bag for the foreseeable future.

x2

Nice shots.

I'd love to see your portfolio, but the link you give doesn't work, I get an internal error alert. Any other way to access the portfolio?

Thanks for the heads up. I really hate the fact that Google eliminated Picasa and replaced it with a really lame Photos. Here is a link that should work.

Roy, please note that Tom is always the antagonist/contrarian in these discussions.  I suggest that Tom leave the DSLR users and their discussions alone.  I think that is a fair resolution.  Don't you agree?

I am not taking sides, I'm just asking both of you to back off and try to be civil in spite of your differences. You are both very accomplished photographers judging from what we have seen here and have every right to be proud of your work. This is a very good forum with a wide variety of experiences and opinions which is healthy, let's not ruin it by senseless bickering. I'll shut up now and not return to this thread.

I have stopped discussing the subject with her. It is hard to have serious discussion when the other person keeps changing the subject. A sure sign they have no argument. Who my favorite wildlife photographers are have absolutely nothing to do with the subject. A desperate move.

We are all entitled to have differing and strong opinions, however, let's not insult one another. Please.

I love having a DSLR but can't claim to be an expert. One of the things I like is learning about the operation.  I find the larger size easier to work with.

Not sure it's worth fixing your camera, but if you like using a DSLR then buy another. Might be some good offers on used ones out there. Whatever makes you happy  ;D

When I shot film I hated ektachrome due to the horrible grain, and looking at the example photos in the article I see nothing has changed. The biggest problem with E6 is getting it processed. But IIRC it is easy to process at home. I am still betting on cell phones.

Tom, I think you are excellent wildlife cell phone photographer.  Better than I ever hope to be.  I think your favorite wildlife photographers are very relevant to this discussion.

Why is that relevant? I honestly don't have any favorite wildlife photographers other than myself. This is not ego speaking, I actually don't know the name of even one photographer other than Ansel Adams and he certainly did not photograph wildlife.

Actually Tom, I like the grain, though I ended up using Velvia more often than Ektachrome. As for home processing, I live in Las Vegas, and I don't know of a single photo store that carries the chemistry. You can certainly get it at Freestyle Photo in Los Angeles and have them ship it to you, but I don't think you would end up saving any money over getting your film processed commercially when you count in the waste. Either that or you have to wait till you have 4 or 8 rolls to develop at the same time.

There is certainly a niche in photography for film, but it won't come back in force and I suspect that within 3 or 4 years, Kodak will discontinue this batch of film for lack of purchases.
