Just spent way too much phone time (over 2 hours total) with 3 different operators/tech's with Directv to change my service area and to allow for local channels. So very frustrating!

Is this normal?
Is there an easier way?
Am I not using the right lingo that the operators can understand?
Is there a different number other than the generic Directv number?
What am I missing?

Any hints from you Satellite Veterans out there?

Ask the DirecTV reps which satellite your locals will be on. Then make sure your antenna is aimed at it and your receiver is turned to it.

We have changed our service address numerous times over the last few years we have had Directv, and never had a problem.  Can you elaborate on exactly what problems you are seeing?  Are they simply telling you you cant change your service address?

I have had similar issues usually they refer you to the movers section. It takes a couple of calls to get someone who will change the address and reset you receiver.
Don't know how to fix this either.

I'm told they have Mobile/RV specialists that you can ask for. I know you can get them when you have a Mobile (RV) account, but if you have a standard residential account you are getting a rep trained for fixed locations and they seem universally clueless about moving around.

Even so, I can't imagine why you had so much problem changing the service address.  If the clerk you get on the phone doesn't seem to comprehend, ask for assistance with a "move". Don't get into a deep conversation about Rvs and locals and what not - just tell them you have moved to such & such address and need your account SERVICE address updated. Not the BILLING address, the SERVICE address..

Thank you all for responding!
I think Gary has a good idea, simple is better. Next time I will just say I have moved and not get into the RV discussion. The problem is resolved. My guess is that the first operator was inexperienced and needed more training. Asking for my new service address 5 times is crazy. After a second call to Direct the final operator was very knowledgeable. There was a setting in my account that he changed that nobody else found. All is good!

I heard or read that Direct has an RV division but when I asked multiple operators I was informed they didn't have such a division?! During my original call when Direct couldn't get things to work they gave me the KVH technical support number; I'm using a 18in. round dish on a tripod!

Maybe for me dealing with Directv the "less is more" approach is the way to handle them. I'll give it a try next time! Again, thank you all for your suggestions and comments...love this forum!

I just had the same problem I was in golf Shores Alabama I want to get the local channels and I had a talk to somebody from India it was like pulling teeth didn't understand what I wanted to do finally I tried chat that work to get it done in about two minutes when I got home to Cincinnati I chatted again and got my local channels back try that next time I was talking to somebody in India they didn't know what RV was

Off topic but still DirecTV. We are planning a Washington state trip but currently receive East coast DDS feeds from NY. Will I still receive these or must I ask for service address change to get the West coast LA channels. I would prefer to leave on the NY channels so reprogramming won't be required.
By the way on subject-the roof mounted Traveler works quite well. Just make sure you have line of sight for antenna.

NY FEEDS...YOU DO NOT HAVE TO change address
I use a NY address as my 2nd home...they are on the 101 channel and always available.

If you just want the NBC, ABC, ETC national feeds use a NY address and you will not have to change addresses

Thanks...do want to stay on the NY feeds while traveling.

Switch to Dish Network.  A simple Chat Session telling them you are in a RV and have changed locations to this new address, 123 Any Street, Any Town, 99999 and usually within about 15-30 minutes your locals have been changed.  About every 5th time I do have to start another chat session to tell them the locals didn't change.  Then they send out an electronic reset signal and the new locals come in.

I'll have to try that chat deal.  I always just call the 1-800 number.
