Starting the planning on a June trip, that includes Zion. Will be coming from the east and then back to the east as we will continue to Bryce after Zion. Looking at the 3 campgrounds near Springdale: Zion Canyon, Watchman and South campgrounds. The two campgrounds to the east near Mount Carmel seem to have fair to poor ratings. Thoughts?

Thx

I can only comment on the RV park we used at Zion
We stayed at Zion Canyon (which is adjacent to the Quality Inn) for several days two summers ago.
We were there because we could not get into Watchman.
The campground has fantastic views of the mountains, but then of course, everything there does.
It was pretty quiet but fairly busy.
One benefit of staying there is that the bus to get into the park stops within a block, very convenient.
We would stay there again.
Most of these campgrounds near major parks are really just places to stay that facilitate exploring the park.
I would not consider any of these RV parks as peaceful, wooded, secluded, highly desirable places.

We came there from Lake Powell, then went to Las Vegas to drop of family, continuing on to Arches.

Now !!!!!! -- you must hike Angel's Landing -- -we are older hikers so only went to the notch just before the narrow ridge to the top.
Son and his family went all the way.  Fantastic trip, but a decent amount of hikers.
Look at the trail on Youtube. Amazing

good luck -- Dale

Watchman and South are two of the most spectacular campgrounds in the country. The views are breathtaking. Watchman requires reservations and must be made a few months in advance. South does not take reservations and you don't need them. Just show up at 8 am any day and drive around waiting for a site to empty out. Sites 5, 6, and 7 are the premier sites since they are right on the river and have very few neighbors. Both campgrounds are serviced by the free shuttle and both are within walking distance to the visitors center and Springdale. Zion Canyon is not located in the park and is very pricey so I have not been there. You really can't go wrong with either Watchman or South. The highlight of your life will be a hike to Angel's Landing and the Narrows.

Well guess I didn't get an early enough start on this. Watchman is sold out already and we can't be at South by 8. Looks like we will have to book Zion Canyon at least for a night and then see if we can get a site at South.

If you can spend one night at Zion Canyon you can get up early enough to be over at South in time to get a site. BTW if you happen to be disabled you can probably still book a site for Watchman if you have an Access Pass. All the parks hold back a few handicap sites till the last minute. Be prepared to be awestruck by the beauty of Zion. The top layer of the Grand Canyon is the bottom layer of Zion. The top layer of Zion is the bottom layer of Bryce. All three are remarkably different. Grand Canyon is a canyon that you stand on the rim and look down into. Zion is a canyon that you stand on the floor and look at the rim. Bryce is not a canyon, it is an amphitheatre, a one sided canyon. All three are located in an area called the Grand Staircase. All three canyons are very close together and as different as night and day. Don't miss any one of them. And BTW, Zion Lodge has the best chocolate ice cream cones in the world. ;D

We spent a week last September at Bauers Canyon Ranch RV in Glendale, UT.  Its located over at Glendale on US 89 East of Zion.  Located in an apple orchard with fresh apples when we were there.  Enjoyed the stay.  We made day trips to all the parks in the area while there.

Thanks. Looks like that's what we're going to do. I came a little late to the party and everything else is booked.

We stayed at Leed's this summer. Not a "resort" but not bad.
Leeds RV Park, 97 Valley Rd, Leeds, UT 84746, leedsrvpark.com, (435) 879-2450
See if they have any openings.
