Florida Keys RV Park Recommendations
« on: March 20, 2017, 09:12:57 PM »
Has anyone here been to the Florida Keys?
Looking for first hand experience on RV park recommendations.

I had a previous post, but it was too wordy (sorry about that)

Ken & Shelia told me about Jolly Roger (thank you!) but no one else mentioned any parks they had been to in the Keys.

If you've been to a park in the Keys, let us know the good, the bad, the ugly.  ;D

We already have 6 nights in state parks and we'll take more if we can get them... IF...

Thanks for your help!

I have not stayed in an RV park in the Keys however I did spend a night on a boat/hotel in Marathon that was fabulous.  It is kinda hard to describe but basically they have a pier with a few boats docked there that are hotel rooms.

I would like to apologize to anyone I have not yet offended. Please be patient and I will get to you shortly.

Jolly roger is a good one, We used to stay there, off and on, and for some reason we could always get a spot there.
For the past fifteen years we have bounced back and forth between all four state parks in the Keys, for the entire winter and two years ago found a site in Key Largo Kampground on Key Largo for sale before it was put on the open market, and bought it. We had rented at KLK previously and knew what a good place it was, and after being there all winter long we absolutely love it.
For what it is worth, if you are looking for the warmest weather on the east coast, the Keys are where to go. We are always five or ten degrees warmer than any place in south Florida.
I can't answer specific questions on the other RV parks since it has been so long since we stayed in them, but we know all of the Keys from Key Largo to Key West and have paddled our kayaks to almost every off shore Key along the way, so if you have specific questions on them just fire away.

I will also suggest Jolly Roger on Marathon. Nice park, price was right and not to far out. Waterfront sites can sometimes be hard to get.

We really like Big Pine Key Fishing Lodge and CG in Big Pine Key. Close to shopping, churches, etc and an easy drive to Key West. Only a few miles from Bahia Honda State Park so it's easy to get over there each day early to see if any spaces open up in the cg. (Not all the parks sites are reservable.)

I stayed at blue water it is very nice and very expensive . We picked a site on the canal due to reviews about the wind on the other side. Very nice teki huts at each site

We have stayed at Long Key State Park several times and love it there. Its quiet, has trails and the staff is great. The worse part is having to make reservations so far ahead because it is so popular.

Don't try to get any for next winter.
they are closing the park while they build a new sea wall or some such thing.

I am sure glad we bought our own RV lot last year and don't have to do that 8:00 am thing ever again!
