Checked the search engine for this topic didn't find any recommendations to have pets vaccinated.  The vaccine has so many side effects our vet says it is up to the owner.  Any thoughts?

We had our dog vaccinated last year and he hasn't shown any side effects. As much time as we spend in the woods we thought it good prevention.

In our area ticks are rampant so Lyme vaccination is yearly. Had one attach for 1 week to our whippet before we found it last summer. I've not seen any side effects and the large vet hospital we go to recommends it to everyone.

There was one for humans: http://www.ctvnews.ca/health/health-headlines/whatever-happened-to-the-lyme-disease-vaccine-1.886946

They got sued over side effects that are debatable if they were related. Then gave up due to the rising costs versus profit.

Total shame because it's a nasty thing for humans. Avril Lavigne is the most famous case. She caught it near her hometown Napanee not far from us and the doctors back in L.A. didn't recognize the symptoms. http://www.ctvnews.ca/health/avril-lavigne-opens-up-in-tearful-interview-on-lyme-disease-fight-1.2447130

HAVE THEM VACCINATED!!!!!
Our little yorkie got bit twice in two months and got the infamous bullseye rash both times. That insidious disease is rampant and most Docs don't have a clue about the treatment. My wife battled it for 4 years with aggressive treatment from a specialist and has finally stopped having the symptoms this past year. The side affects for the human version of the vaccine proved to be too much and so it was discontinued. Do your pets a favor and get the vaccine.

Did the dog get sick from the bites?

In Michigan the entire west coast along Lake Michigan has shown to have them. Here is a good video on how to spot them and how they attach onto people and dogs etc.
