We're interested in park hosting, but a lot of these positions seem to have bathroom cleaning and maintenance duties. Are there any park host positions that don't require you to clean toilets/showers? Has anyone here park hosted before? What was your experience like?

Each position will be unique, find out in advance what will be required. Some places a host just greets guests others they run the whole place.

We're about to head out for our second year hosting near the north rim of the Grand Canyon.  Yes, bathroom cleaning(actually pit toilets)is part of the gig, but after 10 years in the military and raising 5 boys, it's just another day at the office.  Start the campground at 7:30-8am(toilets/campsites/fire rings), finished by noon. Disappear for 4 hours, spend a couple hours checking in campers and selling firewood.

We workcamped for eight years, choosing our jobs carefully based on duties and the location/amenities provided.  There are camp host positions that involve limited duties, basically a greeter and onsite contact point, but they are typically volunteer positions that provide only a site in exchange. The duties for a campground worker are typically more extensive but there is usually a wage as well, either in addition to the site or in lieu of a free site. Duties and pay vary all over the map, so make no assumptions. Discuss both duties and pay (if any) in detail before accepting any position. And make sure you know if the required duties are for just one person or a couple.

Workamper.com is an excellent source of information and jobs and well worth the membership price (in my opinion).
