I have been pulling a wrangler behind our motor home. I want to upgrade to a little larger vehicle. I am looking at a 2000 jeep grand cherokee limited. In the owners manual it does not say anything about towing it according to the current owner. I have not seen the manual. Is there anyway that this is not a 4 down towable unit??  It has two gear shifts and it is a 4X4. Maybe it just isn't in the older jeep manuals? Help before I buy it!

If the 2000 GC is a 4WD and has a transfer case (hi/lo range) then it is towable and I am sure the towing instructions are in the owners manual under recreational towing.  Basically to tow the transfer case is placed in neutral, the transmission in park, and the key is placed in the off unlock position (one click back from the run position).

This procedure is applicable up to but not including the 2005 models on which the key is placed off and removed since the ignition is located on the dash and there is no steering lock.
