I'm new to RV world and just bought a rig with an Atwood 6 gal water heater.  I cannot get the gas to heat.  The electric part works fine.  Any suggestions??  The red light does not go on when I turn the gas remote switch on, it is the electronic light model.
 
What year/make/model RV is it?  External wiring for the heater can differ, even if the RV builder used the available Atwood switch. Generally, though, the red light should go on during the ignition sequence and off once it lights and a flame has been verified.

You are looking at the LP mode switch, right? It is separate from the 120v mode switch.
 
My rig is a 2004 MB Cruiser by Forest River (Sprinter).  There is one red light between the gas switch and the electric switch for the water heater.    The red light does not go on at all.  I do not see or hear anything attempting to light the burner.  The electric switch works fine to heat water.
