I am developing a spreadsheet for my own use to find out ideal ratios for a TT.
I ask you to provide the following in inches
ball to front of box
ball to center of axle(center between axles if tandem)
ball to bumper or rear of box
tongue weight if known
total weight if known.

Travel trailers only?  Fifth wheels probably have different proportions, since the allowable/desirable pin weight is much higher.

I'll also comment that what you will get is the most typical length ratios, not necessarily the "ideal" ratios. More tongue weight is "ideal" for better handling, but not necessarily ideal for some tow vehicles (those with more limited carrying capacity).

I think that's a function of the design of each trailer.

For instance - a toy hauler would need more distance from wheels to hitch in order to offset the weight they expect to carry in their garage.

travel trailers only as 5th wheels really dont relate the same way.
and yes-there are a million factors and ive read most if not all of the professional white papers on these things and all the theory.
this is not a discussion on anything.
that is for another thread-debated as long as teh internet has been alive.

this is solely a data gathering exercise and the more data points i can gather, the better the trend will be.
heck-on your next camping trip-bring a tape measure and give me those 3-6 data points on every trailer.
