Milwaukee to Elkhart, IN - Best Route ???
« on: June 15, 2017, 03:03:11 PM »
I"ll be traveling between these cities on Saturday and looking for the best way to get around / through Chicago area and maintain my sanity driving 38' Class A with toad.

Advice appreciated!

Sorry, but there is no "good" way. Best bet is I-294 around Chicago to I-94/I-80 to I-90/I-80.
I find the section through Hammond and Gary to be the worst.

At least on Saturday you'll miss the folks heading to Wisconsin from Illinois and the folks heading to Michigan from Illinois.  Hammond and Gary are the worst because nobody knows where they're going and they just want to get there in a hurry.   ;D

We decided to stay a night next to the Aurora Airport Saturday and will complete the trip to Elkhart IN this morning.

I thought traffic was light for this area. There was only one slowdown to 5-10 mph due to a crash. Otherwise smooth sailing.

Hoping for more of the same today.

Did you head down 47? If your ever near there again there is a nice Kane County RV park in Big Rock just SW of the airport off Granart.

No.  Took 30, 88, 294, 80.

Our only slowdowns were posted limits in construction zones.

My brother come the same route several hours later and had to take detours to avoid large delays.

We used a Harvest Host site west side of Chicago.
