RVing in Hawaii?
« on: June 24, 2017, 07:20:39 AM »
I was just watching a show in Hawaii, not about RVing, but I got to thinking a problem with living there would be no RVing....at least no roaming to neighboring states....
But then I got to wondering....
Is much RVing done in Hawaii?

I think there are some people that camp in vans or tents to be there when the surf is up early.
There were actually undeveloped parts of the island when I was there in 1984-1988.

Maybe their way of RV'ing would be in a boat going between the islands. After all, it is a sort of recreational vehicle isn't it?

In Maui there is a camp named: Camp Olowalu. They offer tent camping, tentalows, beachside camping and rv and car camping. Our son is staying in one of their tentalows next week. Here is the website: https://www.campolowalu.com/

"Park permits are required for all campers on all Hawaiian islands. They are available for free, and you can download a permit application online. Camping is prohibited at public and state campgrounds and parks on Thursdays. RV rentals can be found throughout Hawaii, and service stations often are located near state parks, but the most popular and convenient Hawaiian camping option is to rent a VW camper."

The Big Island has some neat places you COULD take your RV....but you'd run out of them pretty quickly.  Imagine living in Florida and being geographically restricted from ever leaving.

LOL. And Florida is well over 16X the size of Big Island! It's more like never leaving Connecticut.

yeah, I think Rene called it..... a live aboard boat large enough to island hop would be the concept over there.

We've seen this before....or something like it...
but it came across my news feed today, and I of course thought of this thread.
(yeah, I know it's not seaworthy enough for island hoping.....but funny and fitting)

Seems like too much trouble, easier to just drive to Hawaii.

Heh! The article makes it sound like the Terra Wind is a new product. The coach shown in the photos and videos was actually built in 2003, and has been featured in many articles since then.  ;)
