I just purchased a water heater flushing wand. After flushing the tank with the wand intermittently for 5 minutes, I may have flushed out 1/8 (if that much) of a teaspoon of white sediment. My RV is 7 years old.

My 2008 trailer had a lot of gunky build-up (seemed more rusty than anything) that I washed out at the beginning of this season.  I don't have a flushing wand yet, but filled (with jet spray from a hose) and rapid-drained the tank several times.  More flaky particles came out with the water every time, so I'm glad I did it.

My trailer's first owner camped seasonally at the same place every year during until I bought it in 2015.  I'm not sure what the water quality was like there.
