Turned In The Keys today
« on: June 28, 2017, 08:50:11 PM »
No, I didn't hang up the keys, in fact the RV keys are coming off the wall now.

What I did was turn in the work keys ... as of today I'm officially retired!

My plans are set in Jello - first get the trailer I've been living in from Van Nuys to my lot in the Pahrump Escapee co-op.   Probably won't start on that until after the July 4 holiday.

Then in late July I'll spend a week with my Mom in Indio while my sister, her niece and their family go on a week long Hawaii cruise.

After that, I'll meander over towards Colorado for the Ouray rally.  Probably ride the Durango and Chama steam trains along the way.

Enough planning for now ... I'm tuckered out!

Lou, Lou, Lou.  :-*   Did they really ... finally ... let you retire ... for good?  I'll believe it in about a year if they don't, once again, consider you irreplaceable, and call you back.  We're rooting for you!  Stick with it, and enjoy.  You've certainly earned it.

Thanks everyone.  This time it's for good - I promise!

OutdoorFT, I worked for KCRW, a NPR station based in Los Angeles.  They have a half dozen full power FM stations and another half dozen or so low power translators scattered around Southern California, stretching from San Luis Obispo to Palm Springs, Mojave to San Diego.  I ran around to the various mountaintops and kept it all running.

Happy Retirement Lou! Go out and do the things you want to do and have a blast! I've been retired for about 16 months now. I personally don't call it retirement but rather permanent vacation.  ;D

Congrats! Sounds like you are really going to enjoy being retired. The main thing is to keep busy. I've done it twice. First time we were fulltimers in a 5er. Retired again in 2015 in a new house. Much busier in the new house. Told my wife I may have to go back to work to get some rest. Enjoy your retirement. You deserve it. Now I have to get back to my new job- watching after the two grandkids.

My husband was just lamenting yesterday we never get a vacation since we retired LOL! Enjoy your new stage of life. I really enjoyed my job and my co-workers, but once I found out that we were financially ready for retirement, we took it. Great choice.

Me, too!  I've lost count.  He's going to be really good at retirement because he's tried it so many times.  ;D ;D ;D   Remember when you would come to Quartzsite while still working and sleep so late the "Mom's" would think you might be dead and check on you?  haha  Best wishes.  I know you'll succeed this time.

First time for real, Ardra.  I've taken off a year at a time here and there, but I always knew I'd have to go back to work at some point because I was nowhere near the eligible age for Social Security and a pension.  Now I am, and the extra year and a half employment since I turned 62 has restored my nest egg to a healthy level.

So in the words of the immortal Bullwinkle the Moose as he tried to pull a rabbit out of his hat for the umpteenth time, "This time for sure!"   ;D

Margi, the reason I slept so late at Quartzsite was because as soon as I'd get off work, I'd hop in the RV and start driving there, only pulling over for a few hours of sleep when it became impossible to continue.  Long distance truckers had nothing on me.  Then I'd make up for the missed sleep during the first few days I was there.

Oh, we knew that.  We were Moms, after all.  Knowing how industrious and dedicated you were though, we just had to make sure you had not overdone it, so we would wake you up to make sure you were still alive.  That's what Moms do.   ;D ;D ;D

Congrats Lou, you too will soon adjust to the new lifestyle, as a friend says, it is high school all over again except no homework or exams.  Also, you will soon start to wonder how you ever found the time to have gone to work as your days will be so filled with things to do.
