British and first time poster so go easy on me please.

As part of a larger trip we 6 of us are travelling by RV from Chicago to Memphis April 2018. We've got 5 days planned for this section and want to experience the great outdoors of the USA. What general areas should we consider that will give us some great memories of outdoors America? RV sites that will amaze us with views. Rivers to Canoe down?

About 2 hours South West of Chicago you will find Starved Rock State park and Matthiessen State Park right next to each other. Nice places to hike and explore small canyons.

Starved Rock has nice shaded kind of private camping sites or open sites. Most are electric only, no full hookups. Dump and water available.

Vermillion River Rafting is near these parks and an awesome trek! May not be open that early in the year, call ahead. Old school mom and pop operation, cash only.

A bit calmer, but also near this base camp is Ayres Landing and C & M Canoe rentals. Take the 12 mile trip down the Fox River.

In Southern IL the Shawnee National Forest has the Little Grand Canyon. Nice hike.

Sorry, Illinois is mostly devoid of geography.
