Looking for Florida Snowbird park that has activities and is fun. Ideas?

We live in Indiana but want to snowbird in 2 years. This winter wife and I will be flying down and renting a car to check out places we might end up staying.
I am looking for recommendations.
Our preference is an RV resort/park for our 33 ft travel trailer that is in the southern half of Florida starting Jan through March 2019.
We want a place that has activities. We have a desire to play cards, shuffleboard, karaoke, swim, bike ride, kayak and other things with other like minded seniors. A place with an activities director would be nice. We don't need to be on a beach but would enjoy driving there.
Cost is not a big factor if it is fair. I saw one for $1650 per month... That's too much.
I have been thinking I would find a place by researching Good SAM's Snowbird recommendations and other resources online but I am not comfortable believing some of the marketing I'm reading. Best hope is word of mouth from people that have gone before.
So now I am starting a search for a place for us. Might you have first hand knowledge of a place that you recommend?

Hi gadgetmonster,

Besides people on the forum who can give you a idea of places to stay, I'd recommend you go to this site and click on the areas in Florida that have appeal to you and review them for an idea of what they have to offer. The nice thing about RV Park Reviews, people who have stayed at them give their opinion of how good or bad the park is, any problems and activities. You can also go to that park's website to see what they say about themselves but somewhere between that and the ratings of people who have stayed are probably the truth. I think you are wise to go and see for your yourselves to get the best idea because only you know what you truly want. Good hunting and welcome to the RV Forum!

Here is one, although if 1600$/month is too high, it may not be the one for you. It is on the outskirts of Naples off highway 951 towards Marco Island. There are many privately rented lots available that may be negotiable. All activities (many!!) are run by the owners association/recreation committee.

(6 mo. leases are common, these avoid charging certain county taxes thus lowering the price/month overall to renters.)

We stayed at Hide-A-Way RV Resort in Ruskin, FL for one winter (October through April).  It is just south of Tampa on Hwy 41 and north of Sarasota with easy access from I-75.  St. Petersburg is just across the Skyway Bridge, so there is plenty of access to shopping, entertainment, beaches.

They have a lot of activities starting in November.  Water Aerobics daily. Walking Class 3 days a week, Floor Aerobics 2 days a week, Line Dancing 2 days a week, Bingo 2 nights a week, Card/Game night on Wednesdays with groups getting together at other times as well.  They have a kayaking club, golf club, shuffleboard and horseshoes.  They have men's bible study and a dulcimer group.

They have monthly pot-luck dinners, Bi-weekly entertainment from outside entertainers, including Holiday dances, plenty of area to bike and it is on the river so fishing is available as well and if you have a boat you can moor it there.

I found the park very friendly to new comers.

All of the activities are run by a committee of residents both full and part time.

Our travels have taken us elsewhere in the country but if we get back to Florida, that is where I would stay.

I think they charge $770.00 per month plus electric.  Unless it is an unusually warm winter you would probably not need to run your air conditioner much and certainly no heat.

Resorts in FL do fill up fast for the Jan-Mar time frame so if you are interested I would suggest getting a reservation in now.

Now that is a great list of activities! You can be busy all the time... I like it.
Cost is higher than I thought it would be but if it is the going rate I will consider it.

Many nice places in central Florida.  We stayed in Arcadia Florida.last year for about $1000 per mo, but you need reservation almost 12 months in advance.
 
We stayed at Cross Creek in Arcadia.  They had many planned activities.  Very nice people there.
 
we have been going to Sun RV resort in Citra for the last 4 years. "" Plus their own 9 hole golf course / restaurant , pool tables etc etc. Rates vary but $750 for cement pads, $400 on the grass is the apx rates.

Try Royal Coachman in Nokomis, FL Some of the activities are: a heated swimming pool, 4 tennis courts, pickle ball, miniature golf, putting green, free canoes, pot luck dinners, parties, Internet, horseshoes, Poker and other card games.

I have lived in an RV park in central Florida for the last four years but I have only been to a few parks other than this one. The whole reason I moved to Florida is because it is a playground for retired people with so many wonderful things to do here. The attractions, Kennedy SC, spring training, the Keys, three National Parks, the Gulf, the Atlantic and the Caribbean, hot springs, Manatees, bird watching, the list is endless. So I don't feel you need to find an RV park with lots of activities or an activity director.

But to answer your question what you are looking for is The Villages. It is the most premier retirement community in the world. 167,000 people live there.

But there are no RV parks at the Villages but there are 63 parks within 25 miles.

I have no idea if you have to be a member of the Villages to participate in any of their activities. There are 2500+ social clubs with every kind of activity you can imagine and many you can't imagine.
