I took a weekend trip with my favorite girlfriend. We awoke yesterday morning and discovered the gas leak detector failed. The propane valve defaulted to closed. No hot water :(

Being the diva that she is, she detests showering in public facilities, and she showers 2 x a day.

I recalled reading a post here somewhere that someone hot wired the gas valve as a temporary fix. I said "No problem dear". Pulled the detector, using the schematic on the back, cut, stripped, and twisted a couple wires together and presto! The valve was open in about 3 minutes total time from diagnosis to repaired.

Relaying this event as a thank you all for the wealth of information here. I am learning how to address issues before they happen!

Update - Incorrect diagnosis. Gas detector works. Not bad for 25 years old. Unloaded the refrigerator and smelled ammonia inside.

We are leaving for a 3500 mile trip in 4 weeks and now rebuilding a refrigerator had been added to my to do list.
