Why do I have 2 atuomatic transfer switches
« on: July 11, 2017, 04:19:14 PM »
I am thinking about upgrading to 50 amp service.  When I was looking at what I already had I was puzzled to find that I had 2 Lyght LPT30 ATS's.  Can anyone tell me why?

Let me take a wild guess. 1 failed and it was easier to double up the new one than get the old one out. At least that's my best guess.

Do you have an inverter?

Good point Dutch. In fact my Jayco has 2 auto transfer switches. 1 for incoming power, generator or shore power, and the other for my inverter or shore power. On mine, 1 is clearly smaller than the other, but there really is no reason you couldn't use the same ATS for both.

Many inverters have an auto-transfer switch built in, but an alternative is to wire a second separate ATS to an less-expensive inverter that has no built-in ATS.
