Android v/s I Phone
« on: July 13, 2017, 09:58:14 AM »
For reasons that are more political than technical I'm not a fan of Apple.. So I have an Android phone.

Found and interestign ffeature on my Samsung Galaxy S-5 (Also on the S-3) that I-Phones do NOT have, at least not without additional hardware.

Woman wanted to watch TV in the Adult lounge here at the park.. NO REMOTE and with modern "Smart" tv's. no local controls either

My S-5 came with a uniserval I/R Remote app (And the hardware to use it) already installed
My older S-3 Did not come with the app but I downloadeed one

Was able to turn on the TV and select channel and volume for her NO problem.

Most modern tvs have both an Android and an iPhone app for remote control.
I would like to apologize to anyone I have not yet offended. Please be patient and I will get to you shortly.

Only if they are "Smart" Tv's and then you have to be the authorized user.. A Simple I/R remote works with Modern TV's. Older TV's Dish, Direct, RePlay TV, TiVO, VCR's. CD players, Radios, and more.   But the phone MUST have an IR Emitter diode.

Mine does, my old one did (Still does in fact but it has an issue that may or may not self fix in time, have not checked it lately)

Coincidence. the TV I was oeprating is a "Smart" model (I do not want one of those) but I did nto know that till I got it powered on and it told me.

I just know Samsung remotes all work on all Samsung I/R Remote TV's. only one code set.   This has saved me money in the past when I bought a Samsung to replace a Samsung and the store Demo did not have a Remote..... but I did.
