I broke my A/C!

Hi, my popup has a rooftop Coleman Mach 48203C9665 A/C, which is about 2 years old. I replaced the power cord (old: 25' #12 solid copper, new: 25' #12 stranded copper), and the compressor hasn't come on ever since. Out of desperation I put the old wire back but no luck. Fan blows but no cooling. Any ideas? The unit worked perfectly before I messed with it :-(.
 
You can download both the owner's manual and the service manual from Coleman (Air-Xcel) and from there you can trace every wire, compare it to the diagrams in the manuals (I think service) and see if you broke it or if it just happened...

Without eyes on I can't give you more than that.
 
Thanks I'll check it out. I took "before" pictures to make sure I got new wires connected exactly same as old. Only thing I can think of is maybe I had a poor connection and that dropped too much voltage and tripped something...
 
If the fan runs the a/c is getting 120v power, but it's possible the voltage drops too much when the compressor starts.  Do you hear the compressor "grunt" as it tries to start?  If not, the problem is likely in the controller board - perhaps something got damaged in the changeover.  If it attempts to start but cannot, start checking the connections.
 
I think I figured it out with help of the wiring service manual info. Tested the thermostat (just a basic hot/cold dial on the ceiling controls) and it never changes state. Always the heat wire is live, never the cool wire. I swapped the leads to wire the thermostat backwards and it started working. Apparently it must have broken in the changeover. Any advice on where to get a new one? I wonder how bad it would be to leave the leads swapped until the replacement is installed.
