workkamping in tok alaska

The friendliest place on the web for anyone with an RV or an interest in RVing!
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I've been there, but not as a workamper.  There are three RV parks there - which one are you interested in?

We stayed at Tok RV Village many years ago - it was a decent park with friendly management.

Nice little town.  Pretty small.  Very far away from any population areas.  Probably very high grocery prices.  I'm sure once a month or so someone drives to Delta or Fairbanks with multiple coolers to stock up on supplies.

Alaska and seclusion make me wonder how RVs hold up against bears. Did anyone have any encounters?

We've spent a lot of time in bear country (including at our stick home in the Ocala National Forest) but never had an "encounter". We did see an encounter whle workkamping in Pennsylvania, but that was a tent rather than an RV. Encounters are pretty rare, but not impossible, especially if food is left out.

I've seen a few pictures of damage done by bears to cars and RVs and it ain't pretty. Mostly, though, they simply don't bother.

Here's one where the bear did NOT get in, but scared the daylights out of the campers.https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2741567/Stay-away-Bear-spends-HOURS-trying-inside-Utah-family-s-RV.html

We had an encounter with a black bear a few years ago while staying in a small rv park in southern CO. We had actually seen the same bear the day before while Jeeping close to the park; guessing about 200 lb. He opened a cooler outside the mh beside us and then came over to visit. Left muddy footprints on the mh door and below one of the windows and trashed the tank drain hose, but otherwise no damage. Toby heard him and alerted us and then went back to sleep.

If you do decide to do that, make sure you eat at Fast Eddy's. They have good food.
