I own a Spartan chassis 10 years old, I know there has been an issue with the rubber boot around the ball joint ripping allowing water and dirt to lead to early damage , requiring replacement . I have always kept an eye on them and finally I see the rubber starting to rip. Anything I can do to delay replacing them? How long does it take to cause damage?

Thanks for any help

There is no meaningful answer to that. How dirty are the roads you travel on, how many miles per year, etc. ?  Dirt & water gets in and wear starts, or maybe rust instead of wear if it just sits around without much driving.

I've read about people jury-rigging covers for damaged boots, and also about people who grease the joints every trip to help displace dirty grease or water.  I have little faith in any of those, but maybe you could try.

I replaced rubber boots on my Freightliner's ZF IFS a couple times over 12 years. Once all of them, and another time just two.
