We attended the Ohio state fair on Wednesday (opening day) with two families of kids and grandkids. We skipped the rides and left around 3:00pm. The tragic accident, killing 1 and seriously injuring 7 others, happened around 7:00pm. We were sad for the casualties and their families, but glad that our grandkids didn't witness it.

The same rides have been shut down for both our county fair even before it was mandated and then also the one at the Illinois State Fair.

YouTube videos are quite scary. A couple of teenage girls who had been next in line for the ride were interviewed on local TV; They said that, when the first guy was ejected, the operator hit the panic button to stop the ride, and that's when an entire row of seats became detached.

I did google it, and found a fairly written write up...  Ride came apart,  Scary indeed. and it was inspected that very morning.. Guess they missed a bolt.
