Diesel engine making noise after it was turned off

Being new to a Diesel engine this might be normal but I am not sure. I have a new Newmar Ventana LE diesel with a Cummings 340 isb engine. We have had it since March this yr.  After returning from a recent trip (4 hrs long) I turned off engine and starting doing some unloading. When I came back out to the MH from the house I heard the engine area making a noise like it was starting up but not a complete start. Does anyone have idea of what this might be? I am not sure if it has something to do with burning off exhaust soot.

Maybe run on or dieseling, happens with carbon buildup, cheap gas, or a very hot ambient temperature. I assume it finally stalled out and stopped doing it.
 
It did stop. I never noticed a regen symbol on dash but it could have been there. Most likely that is what was happening. Thanks all for your thoughts.
