Today we hiked the maze called the Fiery Furnace in Arches NP.  I have selected a few images from that hike.  The Fiery Furnace is one of our favorite areas and consists of a maze of rock fins.  There are few if any trails marked through this area.  Many of us today on the hike have been there before and we kind of know our way around.  We also carry handheld GPS units to assure our ability of coming out of the area.  It is a fairly strenuous hike where you are constantly climbing up or down and maybe shinnying between rock fins barely wide enough for you to get through.  It is fun however.

The first image is a resting area directly below the "Hidden Arch".

Enjoy the images.

Great hike. We've done it. Try it in late July or August and you'll find out why they call it the Fiery Furnace.  ;D

Here are a couple of other pictures in the Fiery Furnace.  A little friend who was keeping an eye on us during our lunch break. While some are eating lunch others think it is time for a catnap :D

Ron,

Just one teensy correction.  Your first photo is of Surprise Arch, probably named because it's so hidden away you don't even realize it's there until you're directly under it and look up.  Surprise!

Our hike was great.  Overcast and on the cool side.  For those who have gone with us previously, we didn't get lost once!  ;D
