Just curious. I wonder if the generator would take longer to charge our batteries if I have say for instance the electric water heater on at the same time? My opinion is that I might as well take advantage of the power as long as it won't adversely slow down the battery charge.

As always, thanks in advance.

On one trip I relied on batteries I ran the generator maybe a couple of hours to top them off. Had the air conditioner running the whole time.

The generator does NOT charge the batteries directly,  it powers the charger/convertor which charges the batteries. It makes no difference what other loads are on the generator.

Thanks that answered my question. Now to convince Dad--or not.

Automatic tapering of the charger not withstanding, the generator will charge the batteries exactly as fast as shore power regardless of what else is on. You should be able to run the fridge, WH, probably AC, and the charger without issue. The generator will say when enough is enough and pop the breaker
