A friend just had a nice 2001 Minnie Winnie stolen from a secure storage facility.
Question is, why was this 16yr old unit taken when there were plenty of newer
units available? The ignition switch was forced with a screwdriver and wrench.
Do newer rigs have immobilizer chip technology?

I don't know about newer units, but my 2005 and my 2007 both use a regular key. nothing fancy about them. It could just be that some meth heads were looking for a easy mark to set up a mobile lab.

Lots of them, so it's less obvious.
Maybe it was already unlocked.
Lots of possible reasons.
At least they got their RV back.

I'm guessing it has been recovered since you know how the thief started it. Probably somebody shopping for an RV and decided he didn't like it.

In 2003 I had a trailer stolen from a storage lot that had video monitors.  It was found 6 months later.  It was used as a meth lab.  I had just purchased the trailer, put it on the lot.  Three weeks later I went back to put some stuff in it and it was gone.  Stolen sometime in the three weeks it was there. Forturnately we didn't have any personal items in the trailer yet.

Rig was recovered after 4 days and was trashed. Personal items all gone.
Are newer rigs more secure? I can't find any info on this. My ignition key
looks like any older key, small/thin black plastic. Door unlock is a separate fob.
