2006 Holiday Rambler, 8.1 gas, Allison tranny (not sure of tranny model). Today a red light came on my dash.  Looked it up in the handy dandy owners manual. Says transmission failure indicator light.  All appears fine, tranny shifts fine, oil is fine, both color and smell. Am I just getting a faulty sensor reading?

I suspect it is an Allison 1000 transmission.

How many miles are on it and have you ever had the transmission fluid changed?

Have you made any engine modifications to increase torque?

50K Miles. Changed filter at 30K. Oil is clean and does not smell burnt. No modifications.

Since it still shifts ok, it's more likely an electronic problem of some sort. Loss of communication or maybe some sensor not reporting in. You will probably need an Allison tranny shop to troubleshoot it, though Chevy or GMC dealers can probably read the tranny diagnositc code for you.

I think Gary is right about going to an Allison dealer.

I don't recall seeing hardly any posts about a transmission failure light on the Allison 1000. Pretty rare.
