looking at a 2003 dp coachman cross country, excellent shape, 51000 miles. husband is ex freightliner mechanic. any bad issues with these models

Personally I would pass. Coachman products are not the same as their products from 25 years ago. Not that many of  them are DP's Some 2002's may have a less than 300 HP Cummins. May even have a 2000 series Allison instead of the 3000. Coachman layouts can be strange. There are lots of good units in the 2002/3 range. Newmar, Fleetwood( especially Discovery) and more. All would probably be on FL chassis.

If the unit is on good shape and you like the floor plan and price is right no harm in looking.
Usually the 300hp and Allison 2000 tranny I noticed are more frequent on the newer models like 2006 and above. I have a 2004 Georgia Boy and it has the Cat 330HP and Allison 3060. It will also depend if you plan on towing. That Coachman should be also on a FL chassis.
