I have a Reese 16k hitch I need to refurbish.
Im one of those types that not only wants things functional, but look good too.
Would a good coat of a  Rust-Oleum primer, then 3 good coats of a Rust-Oleum High gloss black paint last long,
or should I fully dismantle the hitch and have it powdercoated?
I know powdercoat is more durable than paint, but a good paint job would be cheaper.
Would you repaint the hitch, or have everything powdercoated?

Why? A new hitch would be cheaper than powdercoating and paint wont last on powdercoated surface itsreally a lot of work for nothing unless your emotional attatched

I did one years ago and I used Rust-Oleum . I also contacted Reese and they supplied me with new decals at no cost.

I've painted my 20K Resse hitch twice in the last 16 years with Rust-O-Lum with good results, I removed and left the decals off.

I have a old '97 model 16k Reese square tube manual slider I bought new. I disassemble  the hitch head and sliding parts every 5-6 years or so AND use Rust-Oleun gloss black  ....let it dry for a few days....then assemble it. I spray the sliding parts with a dry lube several times a season and a dab of red grease on the hitch head parts.
The old hitch looks like new and still super smooth and quiet.
