Has anyone done any research or heard of anyone using hydrogen peroxide rather than bleach to sanitize the potable water system?

Why? Bleach is inexpensive and works well.

Go with bleach. There is a reason municipal water supplies use chlorine and not peroxide.

In any case, peroxide works. So does vinegar. The proportions are different, of course. I prefer chlorine myself, but if you want to use something different, check these sources:
