Hello all,

we spent a lot of time lately looking at RV floor plans.

Sometimes we find one that seems ok when it comes to storage and floorpan but the deal breaker is the countertop being way too small.
And we don't like split sinks.

My question:

If we find a floorpan we like, is it an easy mod to take off the counter top and change the split sink for a square sink, changing slightly the sink position at the same time? For example on this particular RV that we like:

Thanks

Before we bought our current motorhome, we were looking at another one that was substantially less expensive, but which would have required a new kitchen counter and some other mods. In the end, we decided not to get that RV, but when I was talking to the shop that was going to do all the work, they said installing a new Corian counter in an RV was, essentially, no different than installing one in your sticks and bricks house.

Easy enough if you have the skills, but since you have to ask, I suspect you may not. Any cabinet shop could do it as well, but that can get pricey.

There is little magical about RV cabinets - they are built in a cabinet shop at the factory using common construction techniques and dropped into place, typically with a few screws to tie them to floor or wall. Countertops are laminate or solid-surface, built as a unit  and screwed into place once the lower base is built. Sinks are installed in the usual manner, and plumbing is standard as well.

Almost all RVs under 35 feet have very small counter tops. Changing one out would not be easy or cheap. It all depends on how the cabinet was built. Very few people get it right the first time so I would not be worrying too much about expensive modifications to it. Cooking is not the main reason for buying an RV so after you get one you might find it is not that big of a deal.

I see no technical difficulty in replacing that countertop, but the gain is simply using a smaller sink to increase the open space.

A simpler solution is to put a cover over half the sink, a feature that more expensive rigs usually have anyway. Lazydays cabinet shop could make a sink cover to match the countertop (so could any other cabinet shop), and there are various standard sizes available from places like Amazon and Camping World.

Here are some generic examples:

We used to keep one of our two sinks covered 95% of the time.

What Gary said. We have sink covers and one stays in plac  except for dish washing when the double sink is mandetory.
