Looking at a 2006 Mandalay presidio 39a. Is this a lower level Thor? We have a 2003 coachman cross country and the main differences we found is more room with more slides.

Actually, the Freightliner diesel chassis version was one of Thor's nicer diesel models in 2006. The Workhorse chassis version a little less so. However, compared to 2006 DP's in general, it is toward the low end. About the same price class as your Cross Country. so probably familiar in terms of quality & performance.

We have a 2006 Mandalay 40E. At that time it was a "second level" coach in their product line. It has the Freightliner chassis, independent front suspension, ISL 400 hp engine and the side radiator chassis.

The Presido line was Thor's entry level diesel coach in 2006. It would have the solid I-beam front axle, a smaller engine and the rear radiator chassis. If it's anywhere close to the quality of our Mandalay, it should be a pretty nice coach.

I would stay away from Mandalay period.  Lured in by features and style.  owned a 2004 40B on XC chassis.  Coach build quality lacking.  Front windshields popping. took back to factory during 5 yr warranty, they denied the need for a Halo repair.  Windshield started popping after warranty expired.  Front cap delaminated on roof, Skylight leaked etc. Floor tiles popping etc. could go on.  Sold coach few yrs ago, now looking for another one.  Will not buy another Mandalay.  ps, have owned rigs over 30 yr span.  Good luck

One man's trash is another man's treasure.

Sorry about the problems you had with your '04 Mandalay 40B, but we have had zero problems with our '06 40E. Same Freightliner chassis, just a different floor plan and a one-piece windshield.
