I am looking for recommendations for RV parks as close to directly off I10 as possible, somewhere between Baton Rouge and Beaumont. The further west the better. I did some searching around, in LA it seems there are a lot of sketchy places/mobile home parks. It is just overnight but it's me and my sister traveling together so I would like to be safe. My goal is to pull off the road get some sleep and get back going early in the morning so the closer to the highway the better.

Any one have any suggestions?

Frog City RV Park in Duson would seem to fit the bill, about halfway to Beaumont. I have not been there

Industry in the Lake Charles area is booming, and they are building "rv parks" for the contract workers left and right, I know of at least 4 that have opened in the last 6 months, some have a dozen sites, some may have a couple of hundred, and they are all mostly full.    One of the nicer ones in the Lake Charles area is Little Lake Charles RV park (formerly a Yogy bear park), I have not been to it lately, but do know they have spent a good bit of money fixing it up (or at least making the entrance look fancier with wood pilings and nautical rope). This one is about 2 miles from I-10 north of I-10 at exit 36, then down a side road about a mile.    Another option west of Lake Charles in Sulphur is A Plus Motel and RV park, don't let the name fool you it is an RV park, but is in the heart of all the new industrial development so may be packed with contract workers.

p.s. when going through Lake Charles, take the I-210 bypass to avoid the old I-10 bridge which is one of the steepest and oldest bridges on the interstate highways system (built in the late 1940's), the I-210 bridge is still a bit steep, but was built in the 70's so is much wider and better.

Walmart.  Generally save and easy to get in and out.  Look at the store and area with the satellite view on your smart phone or Google Earth, or Google Maps.  Call the store and check that it is OK to park overnight in their parking lot overnight.

There are some Wal-Marts near I-10 in SW Louisiana that I will not even go to after dark these days, much less think about camping in parking lots. Just google: Lake Charles "walmart" murder and you will get a number of examples of why not that have happened over the last 20 or so years.  I know of one area Wal-Mart where there have been at least 5 murders in the parking lot over the last 20 years.

Do you know how many people have been killed in vehicle accidents along this stretch of I-10 over the last 20 years.  Many, many multiples of the number of killings in Walmarts.  And yet we still drive on the highway.

Not saying you should stay in a Walmart in a dilapidated neighborhood.  Use a satellite view to check out the area.

Last week we stayed at a Sams Club in Baton Rouge. Really quite, in nice neighborhood almost no traffic.

Thanks everyone! I?m not really comfortable in a Walmart parking lot, like I said it?s just me and my sister and I feel like two women in their 20s look like targets. Plus I want to hook in to city water quickly to get some into my fresh tank before I head out again in the morning.

Isaac thanks for the I210 suggestion. I?m going to do that. I make this drive really often (without the camper) and EVERY time I go over that bridge on I10 I think about having to pull the camper over it and cringe a little. I?ve seen people do it of course but I?d rather go around. May spice up the drive a little to see something I haven?t seen before as well.

I?m traveling the day before Christmas Eve so most plants may be on a skeleton crew, not that that means they will haul their campers away with them but some might. I?ll call around to the parks and see what?s available.

I was kinda poking around Beaumont area for camping sometime in the near future, but using Passport America.  There are a couple of parks right off I-10 that look pretty good.  I'm not sure about the condition or how full they are due to leftovers from Hurricane Harvey, so I would definitely call before trying.  But these look at least worth looking into.

We stay here a little bit off I-10.  They have good security and a free shuttle to get dinner at the casino.  You don't have to gamble.

We've stayed at Cajun Palms in In Henderson, LA (near Lafayette). Exit 115. Nice park.

Is that a swim up bar  lol this place looks awesome and very easy to get to.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions I seriously appreciate it. I wasnt getting far searching on my own there is so much out there.

If you can make it to Beaumont TX I can recommend Gulf Coast RV Resort.  We did an overnight there a few years ago and like it very much.  Very close to I-10 with easy off and easy on.  Happy RVing everyone.
