Floor register in TT bedroom not blowing air
« on: November 13, 2017, 11:49:21 AM »
I went out this week after a recent cold spell in the NE and fired up the propane heat. I noticed the floor vent in the bedroom had no air coming out of it. I checked inside the access panel and I could feel the heat that appeared to go to the back of the TT but no air.
As I am writing this I wondered if there may be a zone option on the thermostat that may need to be adjusted.
More to follow.

I do not remember if this is a new to you camper or not.  Has air come from this register in the past?

You might have a critter that has made a nest in the duct.
I would like to apologize to anyone I have not yet offended. Please be patient and I will get to you shortly.

Yes to I had heat before and this TT I've had for 4 seasons
And to Seilerbird's suggestion I thought that but I have an enclosed underbelly and I cant track the ducts nor can I see them.
I can see if I can fish something through the ducts from the floor register back.

A mouse only needs a hole the size of a dime to get in.
If the ducts are similar to a dryer vent, be careful fishing anything in them. You could puncture the vent.
I would remove all of my floor grates and stuff a rag in each hole except the farthest one away from the furnace. Then using a good shop vac, stick in that hole and try to suck anything out of the vent piping. Make sure you start with a clean shop vac so you'll know if anything got sucked out.

Can you pull this register with no air flow, then lay a flashlight in the duct, facing the heater.
Then take a mirror & try to look down the duct for obstructions. If none seen, Next, after removing light, fire the unit up, then when the blower comes on, stick something thin and flat into the duct, through the register hole to see if this might pick up air. It is possible, the air flow might be passing by this register without putting out air. In a case like this, you just need a deflector (extractor) into the air flow, to bring it out at this register.

Obviously, this is a "new" blockage.  I love Rene's idea.

You could also try blocking off the other vents to force the air to the dead one.  See what blows out.  I think that might be easier than the shop vac method.

Doing it that way, I believe you'd blow everything into the furnace.

Well, maybe.  My furnace is at the back of my 5th wheel, and my bedroom is of course at the front.  I can't see the air blowing back into the furnace especially if you did it controlled (one or two vents at a time).

Look carefully at the register,,many have an adjustable vane for balancing the heat of the coach,, the adjuster will be at one end.>>>Dan

Yes, there must be an adjusting vane that can help you adjust the heat. If this all is not working, then do take help of some professionals who can guide you if there is any blockage in the system.

None of my registers have a adjusting vane so it's not a given that all registers have them. .

I took the register cover in the bedroom off and should be able to get a small flashlight down there. Problem is I have big hands and the opening is very small. May have to get DW involved. Also I will need to get a mirror small enough to get down there also. I am getting no air at all not enough to move cigarette smoke, I don't smoke but had to borrow one. Funny not too many people smoke anymore they must be listening. It is the last register inline so it is not passing it by.
I am getting the PA state inspection done in February and will have the dealer check it out if I can't find it.
I'll keep you all posted on progress
 Thanks Joe
