Hi again from this newbie family,

Fifth wheel toyhauler is coming home next week. I'm still trying to decide whom to insure it with. I have quotes from USAA, Progressive and Good Sam.

Currently all of our vehicles and homes are insured through USAA. However, Progressive has the cheapest policy and Good Sam seems to offer the most amenities.

Looking for your experienced advice on whom to insure through. Is there a recommended provider I should seek a quote from? Is the Good Sam membership worthwhile?

Who do you use for roadside assistance coverage?

Thanks in advance. Really love this forum!

First determine what coverages you want/need and how much, and then shop for the best value for that coverage. Since no liability is needed for a trailer, basically you just need Collision and Comprehensive, but deductible is important too.  And do you want full replacement value or just ACV?  In any case, try an RV specialist agency such as Millers RV Insurance and see what they can come up with.

Would you be willing to move the insurance on the other vehicles if there was an attractive package deal for all your stuff?

Roadside is probably either Coach Net or Good Sam.

I will try an RV specific insurance company. Thank you for the suggestion.

We are more than willing to switch all of our vehicles if there is a better premium. We have found over the years that USAA is hard to beat as active duty personnel.

I appreciate your help <3

A friend of mine was towing his fifthwheel in a snowstorm and the trailer came sliding around him and did a bunch of damage to the truck and trailer.

He had two different insurance companies.

His words of wisdom after everything got repaired were:

1. Never drive in a snowstorm.

2. Never use two different insurance companies.

I have been insured with State Farm for years, and my wife has been insured with them since she was 16. I just went through the ordeal of getting quotes from over a half a dozen companies including USAA. I made sure each was quoting the exact same coverage as what I have now, and no one could beat State Farm comparing apples to apples.

I use USAA for all my vehicles, including all the RVs I have owned. However, I do NOT use the USAA roadside assistance because their contracts are not set up for RVs. Instead, use either Coach-net or Good Sam.
