Need some help ?-

I have mounted a swing out grill on the rear of my TT. I want to take advantage of the twin 30# tanks in lieu of 1 lb. bottles. I have a convenient location below the stove/oven to tap into the existing copper gas line. This line is obviously on the low pressure side of the tank regulator.

QUESTION: Can I use compression fittings (brass or nylon) to install a T in the line ?  I prefer not to flair the fitting, simply because of the location.

Thank you in advance.

Bob Hall

Compression fittings are never recommended for flammable gas or liquid use, regardless of the line pressure. Only flare or threaded fittings should be used. Flaring tools are readily available at many hardware and auto parts stores, and don't cost a lot. A little practice and you'll be flaring like a pro. The most common error when flaring is forgetting to put the nut on the tube first... ;)
Keep in mind also, that you'll need to remove the pressure regulator on the grill, since the LP supply will already be from the low pressure side of your cylinders. Double regulators (not the same as 2-stage regulators) don't work very well.

Thank you very much for the information and the quick reply. I suspected as such, but it never hurts to ask. BTW, It is a Magma marine grill. I have replaced the 1lb bottle regulator and have a Magma LP controller. Thanks again.

One other solution I recently discovered is a $10 adapter to refill the 1# bottles from a larger tank.
