Is this email I received yesterday valid?  It begins:

Simple Machines Forum has released a new patch to the 2.0.x line, bringing our latest release version to SMF 2.0.15.

And later continues:

For support questions, please refer to our website at https://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?board=147.0

If you are having problems downloading the patch from the admin panel, you can download the patch package from the upgrade patches page: https://custom.simplemachines.org/upgrades/ and install it via the package manager, as you would any other mod package.

Please refer to the Online Manual for more details about:
Upgrading: https://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Upgrading
Patching: https://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Patching

Thank you for using SMF!

Warm regards,

Their web site seems to indicate similar information but.... Do you use this software? and why??

Unless you've signed up for/use the SMF software (and are on their mailing list), I have no idea why you'd receive that email. OTOH are you possibly a member of their support forum? (that would get you on their mailing list.) In over 12 years of using the software and being a member of their support forum, I've never received any unsolicited messages from them, other than software update notices and topic reply notications.

SMF runs on a server, so no real reason to have it on your computer, except as a test bed (in a local server stack). We use SMF as our forum software, and I'm in the process of updating a number of sites where I use it.
