Has anyone use ProFlex on TPO roof?
« on: November 29, 2017, 11:00:29 PM »
I wonder if anyone has used ProFlex Geocel on a TPO roof.  My dealer suggested it but I have questions about whether or not this a good idea.

I wouldn't. The only caulk I've used is Dicor on the roof. Proflex is great on all other seams and around windows/doors etc.
I know you believe you understand what you think I said,
But I am not sure you realize what you heard is not what I meant

No worries - Proflex is compatible with TPO. It should not be used on EPDM rubber, but TPO is fine.  But if in doubt, stick with the Dicor - it works well too.

Update: I want to share what I found out for others to know.

As I was looking for instructions at the web page it states that it should not be use on TPO or EPDM.  This is what it states: :Do not use on extruded polystyrene insulation sheathing (Styrofoam, etc.), TPO, or EPDM. "

For those of us with TPO roofs, this is what I found on Dicor's web page"

"While Dicor Lap Sealant can be used without concern on all EPDM (rubber)
RV roofing, if your RV has TPO roofing and it was built after 2010,
you may need to use the Dicor Ultra Sealant System instead to avoid
disfiguration and bloating of the roofing that may result from using
Lap Sealant."

Dicor says that some TPO compounds used after 2010 have a chemical composition that could react to the traditional Dicor lap sealant product.  I've not ever seen a complaint about that in the several RV groups I frequent, but maybe Dicor has received complaints.  For more info on this potential problem, see http://www.dicor.com/ultrasealant/
