Hi,

We are close to purchasing our first RV.  One dealer is reluctant to show or share the Carfax Report - has anyone else had this problem? Buying a used vehicle has risks especially with the hurricanes and flooding this year.  Should we be concerned?

Need we say anything at all. The dealer is saying there are issues there and doesn't want to share them with you. Time to walk fast IMHO.

Start walking out the door. They will either show it or not. If they're that reluctant to show it, there's probably something wrong with it. If you can get the VIN, you can get your own Carfax. I would also tell them you will publish your findings online and the local papers/for sale guides.

Buy one yourself if you are serious about purchasing the RV.  We've purchased Carfax reports on both our motorhomes.  They only tell you about things that are reported.  Oil changes for example.  They're only indicated if the dealer inputs the data.  Many repair/service facilities don't.  Consequently they're not a great source for assessing service records.  They do give you a history of the vehicle registration.  That could be important if the vehicle was salvaged and then re-registered.  IIRC, they will also tell you where they were registered.  That would be helpful if previously operated in a flood area.  They are not expensive and will give you some piece of mind.  However, they are not without limitations.  A good inspection by a qualified independent technician can pay for itself.  Just make sure they're good.
