We have a 2011 chevy silverado 3500 6.5 foot truck bed.

We are currently looking for a hitch for our 5th wheel. Our truck has a built in gooseneck ball. Based on research it looks like these are not a good option (https://www.amazon.com/Built-Adjustable-Wheel-Gooseneck-Adapter/dp/B073TMNFH3/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1522548685&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=5th+wheel+adapter&psc=1)

However it looks like getting an adapter like this could be an option. https://www.amazon.com/16310-Gooseneck-5th-Wheel-Adapter-Plate/dp/B0033WDFEK/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1522546857&sr=8-7&keywords=truck+bed+5th+wheel+adapter

If this is the best option should we get a slider hitch to attach to this. We have a 6.5 foot truck bed.

This appears to be an option but it is not a slider: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KO77C5A/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A2MLEEBP3V5BFE&psc=1  (I do see there is a slider option for this hitch but is very pricy)

Interested in what your recommendations are. Thank you for your feedback.

Do you need to keep the gooseneck hitch? I took mine out and installed a conventional fifth wheel hitch. Unfortunately I can't slide it with the trailer hooked up so have to be real careful turning, newer fivers usually have cutaways on the corners.

We do not need to keep the gooseneck hitch however I'd rather not have to drill more holes. I'd rather just use what we already have and use an adapter. We are looking at 2011 and newer 5th wheels only. Not sure if this is classified as "newer fivers".

Thank you

In this case "newer" merely means that in recent years more 5W models have featured angled or tapered front corners.  If the trailer has a tapered front overhang, it is less likely to strike the truck cab in a very tight turn.

If the front taper is sufficient,  you would not need a sliding hitch at all.  Whether you need one or not is subjective anyway - you may never need to turn sharply enough to risk a cab strike, and if you are paying attention you won't suffer damage if it does come to that.  Where people get into trouble is when they "jack-knife" the trailer in a backing turn when they are focused on where the back to the trailer is heading. Many RVers will never encounter that situation, but if you do, having the slider is a real plus.

Take a look at the Anderson Hitch. Weights only 38 lbs.

Over the years i have sold hundreds of hitches and if you ever look in the box of a transport service chances are you will see a Curt they are inexpensive and work great the 16 series ischeaply made and misses some of the. Damping features of theQ20 andQ 24 as others have said you may not need a slider depending on your coach, my current Q20 ive had for 5 years and when i purchased my current truck it came with a hitch as a factory option which i sold back to the dealer and i kept the hitch i had and just transfered it from my old chevy to my ford with a change ofmounting systems which was cheap.

Just looked it up, looks like a good option.

Am very pleased with the new Anderson hitch in my 6 -5 bed,  great fit using existing hideaball and easy to install and take out.  Great choice for us for our new 5th wheel.

Another vote for the Andersen here. There are numerous videos out there of it being used in 6.5' beds but I cannot personally vouch for it since I have the long bed. I absolutely love the features of the hitch otherwise, though.
