is there a way to safely block the wind from blowing out the pilots on the fridge and furnace, when the weather comes up?

I don't understand how the fridge can tolerate moving at 60 MPH down the road, but can't tolerate 40 MPH wind gusts in the desert......

I was considering fabricating some sheet aluminum "shrouds" that would block the wind while still allowing for circulation.  Anybody tried that before?

thanks

We used to have a cab-over camper, and while driving, the wind would always blow the fridge's flame out. I fixed the problem by mounting a home-style air filter inside the fridge's access door. It let air flow freely, but baffled the gusts.
