Long story short. The windshield in our RV was replaced and repaired at least once before we bought it. I had both sides removed and replaced the gasket twice, both times it looked like the windshield was ready to pop out on one corner. The first time they sealed it and it leaked, the second time I asked them not to and it didn't. While replacing the gasket the second time, the repairman pushed a bit hard near the area that had previously cracked. Oops, it restarted the crack. He filled the crack as best he could and it held for two years. Now the crack is extending and it's time to go in with a new windshield.

Here's my question. Do I seal it or not? I've read before that it shouldn't be sealed because the windshield needs to be able to move and that made sense, thus my asking them not to seal it on the second go around. I have also heard that the gasket itself should be sealed against the vehicle body. Any auto body or windshield folks out there? What are your thoughts?

Finally found an answer at the manufacturer's website, at least their recommendation.

I can't seem to link directly to the page, but you can follow the link below, select TECHNICAL INFORMATION, then  EXTERIOR, and  Windows. PDF files are available there for both one piece and two piece windshields.

Strange, it seemed to work for me originally and I wasn't logged in, but for some reason it won't now. Can't seem to be able to edit the post above, probably too much time elapsed. Try the one below, it is working for me today. Same steps.

Gary, if this one doesn't work, just delete the thread. At that point, it would seem a little pointless.

Still no Technical Information available to me, a non-Newmar owner. As you say, it is academic as far as this thread is concerned in the "here & now", but some future reader might be seeking the same info.

Just for grins, I've attached a screen shot of the page as I see it.

Let me back up one more step then to the link below. I must be stepping into the middle of some sort of processes from the server side. Strange I can get in one time and not the next.

https://www.newmarcorp.com/owner-tools/parts-and-support/

At the bottom of the page is a link for "Parts Inquiry", try it, then select TECHNICAL INFORMATION, then  EXTERIOR, and  Windows.
