I've been practicing a simple Doo Wop strum on the ukulele. Separately, I've been trying to play/sing Doo Wop songs, most of which I already knew. Unfortunately, many songs of that genre are way too high for me to sing.

A simple Doo Wop strum, using the familiar C-Am-F-G7 (I-vi-IV-V) chord progression, in 6/8 time, with the emphasis on the 4th strum:

C              Am            F            G7
123123    123123    123123  123123

A couple of Doo Wop songs:

In The Still Of The Night (C), I-vi-IV-V:
In the still of the night I held you held you tight
cause I love love you so promise I'll never let you go
in the still of the night

Earth Angel (G), I-vi-IV-V:

Earth angel, earth angel Will you be mine?
My darling dear Love you all the time I'm just a fool
A fool in love with you

I'm developing this into a teaching moment for the band, as I did for the R&R songs that led to our rock & roll medley..

I need to get off my duff and practice; I have a few more weeks (until June 12) to get ready for our next open mic' when I can present this. Folks probably don't realize that we already have 2 Doo Wop songs in our current Song Book (Blue Moon and The Lions Sleeps Tonight), but we don't play/sing them in Doo Wop style. I hope to change that.
