I've been tossing around the idea of doing the generator swap my old Kohler to a modern inverter generator what I'm wondering is has anybody sold one of these old Generator recently got a ballpark figure of how much it might be worth its a Kohler 4cm21 4 kilowatt?  I just put on a new fuel pump and it runs beautifully no hour meter though so I have no idea how many hours are on it

Can't help you with the value. Even though Kohler is a well known and reliable brand, and the unit is running perfectly, I doubt it's going to be worth a lot.

Are you talking about installing a portable inverter generator into the compartment like your Kohler? If so, they're not designed for this so you would have both safety (carbon monoxide) and possible operational (airflow, overheating) issues to consider. Installed gensets are designed to draw large amounts of air into the compartment and then exhaust the hot air out the bottom. At the very least you'd need to fashion an exhaust system.

Suggest you  look on Ebay for other Kohler gensets to get an idea of value.
Here's your exact unit for sale on Ebay, setup on a cart to use as a portable - asking $500
