I have always taken I-44 into St Louis and come out on I-70 going west to east. But I?m wondering if I would rather take I-255 around. Any suggestions? Tired of the construction, bad roads and heavy traffic all day.

I am from the St. Louis Metro area. I use I-255 every time I make a trip back there. Over all the traffic is much easier to deal with but I-255 also has some bad spots. The winter weather combined with the heavy traffic create bad roads all over the area. My suggestion would be to take I-255 around St. Louis to the south as it has much less traffic than I-70. You can pick up I-70 in Illinois off of I-255 and you will find an easier drive.

Which way and where are you going. Not sure by your description. I have traveled through ST Louis a lot with semi, car and RV. I am assuming you are heading east off I44 to I 70. That is the most direct and quickest route regardless of construction.

It would probably depend on where you are going after you get through St. Louis.  If you want to continue going east (I-64 towards Louisville lets say) or if you are going to head North towards Chicago.  I-255 is definitely the best if you are going to continue East to wherever.  If you are headed North like on I-55 in IL., then take I-44 to the I-270 north loop and follow it all the way into IL, then pick up I-55 to go north.

Without knowing more as others have said it would be hard to advise. I was there last year about the time of the eclipse and stayed at Casino Queen RV Park. Spent several days driving around the area and didn't find it to be a problem.
