I?m installing a Xantrex Freedom XC 2000 Watts inverter as part of my solar upgrade. I wanted to have the capability to power any 120 volt device except the two A/C units. Normally the main panel feeds the inverter and it in turn feeds a sub panel that powers selected circuits.

This would require removing the feeds for these circuits from the main panel and rerouting to a sub panel. In my case a sub panel could not be located close enough for the wires to reach.

My main panel had space for another breaker. I found that I could split the bus that links the breakers together and have a sub panel within my main box. Adding another duplex breaker gave me the additional spots needed to feed the inverter and receive it?s output.

The  Zantrex requires the neutral be split as well.

The photos show how this was accomplished. The top two breakers are on the main bus and he bottom four form the sub panel.

This is how the breakers are used:
1. 30a Main - Line In
2. 30a Feed to Inverter
3. 20a Front A/C
4. 20a Rear A/C

5. 30a Receives output from Inverter- Feeds the sub panel portion
6. to 10. 20a feeds to various circuits in the coach

Truly thinking outside the box, then stuffing it back into the box!  I LOVE THE IDEA!

I assume you had to remove the bus bar and cut to your needs and reinstall?

PURE GENIUS!

It was very simple to remove both the breaker and neutral bus brackets. They are held to the box by a few screws from the outside.

I know I have to do some serious labeling for future users. With the Main breaker OFF the Inverter, powered by the house batteries, will be pumping 120 volts into the sub portion of the panel.

Thanks for the positive comments.

Actually you will probably want to label them for yourself too.  ;D
