San Juan National Forest is mostly south of Silverton, the areas around Ouray are in the Uncompahgre National Forest.  Uncompaghre is in a Stage 2 Fire restriction which prohibits things like open fires and using generators, etc. without spark arresters.  It should't interfere with our off road vehicle trips, except we can't leave the trails and park on or drive across grassy fields.

I just spent a week in Lake City.  The Alpine Loop is open.  The area is in Stage 2 but the Monsoon rains are starting to head that way.  We did a long loop one day and Ouray, Silverton and Durango were all open for business.

In regards to the article above...double check about state and national campgrounds.  There were closures recently.
