What's involved in replacing the wood on my slide

My rv has these extension panels, and a molding on the seam on the outside. This is probably the only RV out there with this stupid design.
Anyway there's wood on the backside and a cover panel over it.. I think it's just some kind of rigidity thing for the panel. It's all rotted. I have pictures of it but I'm hoping I can just take off the panel and not have to actually dig into the slide itself. Posting here to be sure before I get it started.

I am a not sure on that. I do know if it is rotted and you are needing to repair it unfortunately sometimes you just have to dig in and see how it goes. Not much other choice. Maybe someone else will be better in guidance.
 
The molding at the outside-bottom pretty much says there is a seam there.  Strip off that molding and dig in to see what its like. RV construction is rarely very sophisticated, so that lower panel probably comes off without any great challenge.  Which is not to say it won't be hard work...  :-[
