I bet you were nervous. Last fall we were coming across 64 through northern NM at just about dusk. I saw a couple of deer cross the road in front of us, and then about a mile later I just barely picked up the shape of a couple of elk in the edge of my headlight beams.
I pulled over at the next possible pull out and called it a night.
