hello all, does anyone know the torgue specs required for the 8 nuts that hold the rear axle in? i have been searching and all i keep coming up with is the "wheel" lug nut torque spec! any help woul be appreciated!

IIRC, Workhorse used a couple different rear axles on those...and torque specs might vary by model...

You COULD follow a general torque guide based on the size of the bolt:

https://www.portlandbolt.com/technical/bolt-torque-chart/

OR, if you're not comfortable with that, call Brazel's RV. They're a Workhorse shop and should be able to answer your questions. Be sure to have your VIN handy.

From the Workhorse Chassis Guide:

W20/W22 with 8-hole wheels have 22 mm studs and 33 mm lug nuts requiring 475 lb-ft of torque.
Download a copy of the chassis guide from http://deserttruckservice.com/pdf%20folder/workhorse_chassis.guide.pdf

I think that?s lug nut torque. If you try to put that much torque on the small bolts that hold the axle shafts into the axle...you?ll be doing a lot of extra work.

yes, not to mention trying to locate that size torgue wrench !lol    i cant believe that it is this difficult to get the correct specs on this especially since the lug nut torque specs are so "available".

There are standard specs for the different sizes and grades of bolts. The grades of bolts are identified by marks on the heads of the bolts. No marks = grade 2,  grade 5 = 3 marks . And grade 8 = 6 marks. Metric bolts also standard charts. Note that bolt size is determined by the shank of the bolt, not the size of the wrench. But you can usually tell what size a bolt is from the size of the wrench needed. Example a 1/4" bolt would take a 7/16" wrench. I would think the generic torque charts would be adequate.
Here is a good source for info.

I think that?s lug nut torque.
Yes it is. I read the opening message too quickly and thought that was the info needed. My bad!
I'm pretty sure the axle torque specs are in the axle section of the Chassis Guide cited above, but I'll leave that exercise to mrd341

couldn't get this to copy correctly but i think i've found what i was looking for
this is from the dana spicer rear end manual. thank's for all of the input, i was afraid to take the axle out without knowing the torque to get it back together!
